Big Vans Are Now Eligible (Up to 15 Seats)
Large multi-passenger vans seating up to 15 people are now eligible to list on Turo. California is the one exception: the cap there stays at 10 seats, unchanged.
Announced in Turo's Summer 2026 Car Rental Host Release, governed by Turo's Terms of Service.
What was actually blocked before this change
Vehicles above the platform's previous seating threshold simply weren't eligible to list, full stop, regardless of condition or demand. A host who owned a genuinely useful 15-seat van for weddings, church groups, or multi-family trips had no path to listing it. That specific gap is now closed everywhere except California, where the 10-seat ceiling from before remains in place.
The demand this actually opens up
Large groups have always been an underserved category on peer-to-peer platforms, since standard sedans and even most SUVs can't seat them. Wedding parties, youth sports teams, multi-generational family trips: all of these are searches a 5-seat sedan simply can't answer, and now a legitimately large van can.
What actually changes about running one
A 15-seat van isn't a bigger version of the same operating math as the rest of your fleet. Damage responsibility scales with vehicle value and repair complexity, both of which are higher on a large van than a compact sedan. Staging and parking space requirements go up. And the guest pool searching specifically for a 15-seat van is smaller and more occasion-specific than the pool searching for a standard vehicle, which means utilization assumptions from your existing fleet won't transfer directly. Run the same profitability math you'd run on any new vehicle category before adding one on the strength of eligibility alone.
Worth confirming before you list one
Seating capacity for a specific van model isn't always self-evident from its marketing name, since manufacturers configure the same base van with different seat counts depending on trim and market. Confirm your specific vehicle's actual certified seating capacity, not just its common nickname, before assuming it clears the new 15-seat ceiling or falls under California's 10-seat limit.
Before you list one, run the comparison
Price out what a 15-seat van's insurance, tires, and parking would actually cost against a realistic booking frequency for large-group trips in your specific market, using real quotes rather than assumptions carried over from your sedan or SUV listings.
